Getting Hot

It's gotten pretty chilly out there. Hopefully most of you are nice and warm where you live. For those of you looking to move into a new place, make sure your potential home has a good heating system. The most popular kind of system is city central heating where the heat emanates either through radiators or even better, pipes under the flooring. City heating usually costs about 25RMB per square meter of living area. This price is for the whole winter, which lasts about 130 days or so up to early April.

Gas heating is also very popular and usually more efficient. This type of heating, which is also through radiators, can be controlled more easily and is usually saves costs as you can turn it down or shut it off if you ‘re not in the house. Air conditioning, by itself is usually not effective enough, however, it depends on the system and I'd suggest turning the system on to evaluate the temperature before you sign your contract. Also, when evaluating the apartment, make sure there are enough radiators in the apt to sufficiently heat the place up. Many places that have central heating may still be cold because of the lack of radiators in the rooms. So tke my advice and your place won't have to double as a refrigerator.
