Getting the right place over here is not easy as it is. Add the parameter of ‘fully furnished', and you're in a new dimension. Of course there are many furnished homes here, but in most cases I can say that the style and taste of the furnishings are less than desirable. If you're staying here any more than a year, I would strongly suggest renting an unfurnished residence. Buying furniture here is very affordable and makes you much more comfortable in your home. You can always sell your furniture later. Just put an ad in the Redstar! Some great places to buy furniture are ‘Haibo' furniture mall, and (Whatever else). If you want to buy really cheap furnishings, I'd suggest the old furniture market (juguo shichang) As far as appliances go, I would suggest buying your own only if you're going to be here long term.

On the flip side, many people have the misconception that an unfurnished place is cheaper. Sometimes it is true, but only if the landlord can use the existing furniture elsewhere, which is usually not the case. If you do get a furnished place, be sure to put all the clauses into your contract regarding repair and destruction of property, and make sure everything is in working order before you sign. Better be safe than sorry!
